Pratt & Whitney Canada

Need:

After a successful Human Resources realignment in which HR professionals took on the role of generalist and were charged with executing the organization's training and development, Pratt and Whitney Canada (P&WC) took it a step further. Senior leadership decided to streamline the training function, align training with the goals and objectives of the organization, increase front line leaders' participation in training and promote accountability among leaders for their own development.

By contract's end, all 500 P&WC first- and second-level leaders in North America are expected to have completed training in IM Essentials—all courses customized to reflect P&WC's culture, vision, and values, and offered in both English and French.

Solution:

A new Roadmap process for P&WC leaders, in which each leader sets goals relative to four performance areas, was launched to coincide with DDI's management of the training function. To support the new process, a curriculum of leadership development courses from DDI's Interaction Management®: Exceptional Leaders . . . Extraordinary Results® (IM: EXSM) leadership development system was introduced.

Results:

Through the DDI partnership, P&WC realized:

  • Higher quality of available learning solutions with less courseware redundancy.
  • Alignment of curriculum to the organization's business needs.
  • Reduction in training "no show" rates from 17 percent to less than three percent and a 50 percent decrease in participant cancellations.
