Since 1938, Unisys Australia has been one of Australia’s most creative, innovative, and technologically savvy companies. Drawing heavily on the technical excellence and talent of local employees, the company has helped both business and government organizations apply technology to enhance their competitiveness in the world market. With a strong need to drive the continued performance of the Australian operations, protect intellectual property, and attain business continuity, Unisys Australia identified a need to secure and develop local leadership talent. 

Solution:

To support this objective, Unisys Australia identified a leadership development program that would support the accelerated development of internal leaders: DDI’s Strategic Leadership Experience® (SLE). A proven ability to meet the stated criteria for measurable results and a unique interactive experience made DDI the logical choice for the assignment. Tailored by DDI Australia specifically for Unysis, the two-year program was designed to expose high potentials to a variety of experiences that would lead to their consideration for executive roles within the business. Ultimately, the goal was to put an effective succession management strategy across the local business.

Results:

Since the first program was completed in June 2003, Unisys Australia has successfully promoted a number of internal candidates to Australia, New Zealand, and Asia Pacific leadership roles. Unisys Australia now boasts a leadership team that comprises a true mix of local and international members. Due to the overwhelming success of the initial program, Unisys Australia plans to embed the SLE as a permanent feature of its overall accelerated leadership program in Asia Pacific. By incorporating DDI’s Strategic Leadership Experience® program into its accelerated development program for high-potential leaders, Unisys Australia has realized the following results:
